New school year 2011-2012 sees a new era for St Als. Recently appointed Principal, Ms. Yvonne Bane, and Deputy Principal, Ms. Eileen Kelleher, welcomed staff and students on their return to school.

Retiring Principal Vivien FitzGerald-Smith was presented with gifts by representatives of each year at an assembly in May. Outgoing Deputy Principal Ms. O’Donovan has been appointed Principal in another school. We wish them both all the best for the future.

Each year the Head Girl is chosen through a process of nomination by her year group, interview and appointment.

One of the duties of this year’s Head Girl, was to greet the Lord Mayor and the Lady Mayoress when they visited the school in October.

The Training Ship Gunilla, Sweden’s largest sail training vessel first visited Cork between 4th & 10th October 2007. The Swedish College Under Sail is a unique three year High School programme during which students, boys and girls, spend four months a year sailing the world. While in ports world-wide the trainees visit schools to learn about education in various countries and exchange views with young people on shore. St Aloysius was lucky to host the young sailors from the Gunilla. It was an enriching experience for all who got involved.
